Jewellery Care

Cleaning Your Jewellery

Cleaning Your Jewellery

Gemstones attract dirt and grease.  Frequent and regular cleaning will keep your gems bright and shiny!  If you are unable to take your items into a jeweller to be cleaned, this home remedy is the next best thing.   Heat up some water, but keep the temperature below a boil, something closer to a hot coffee, then add a little bit of cleaning detergent.  For harder, more durable gems, such as diamonds and sapphires,  you can use diluted original Mr Clean.  For less durable gems, I would recommend staying with a more mild option such as dish soap or hand soap.  Use a soft bristle brush to remove stuck on grime and make sure to rinse well.  Be weary when dealing with soft or porous gems.  If you are unsure if your metal or gemstones can withstand the heat or this process, make sure to verify with your jeweller, or jewellery specialist or better yet, let them take care of it for you.  If your Sin Kim Jewellery piece is lacking it’s usual sparkle, please contact me for a complimentary clean.
